RAE CHALMERS BROWN Well known North East business man dies aged 81. Rae Chalmers Brown passed away peacefully on October 23rd after a long battle with poor health. Rae founded Rae Brown & Co. Ltd. in 1975 with Sandy Matthew before retiring in 2006. Rae and Sandy built the business from scratch, originally working out of Sandy's shed and moved into their office and workshop at Farburn Terrace as the business continued to expand and employed 30 people. The success of the business and its continued growth was down to Rae's strong work ethic. Rae played football and golf to a very high standard, playing football for Balgownie, Huntly along with having a trial for St Johnstone in his early years. Rae was also a keen follower of Aberdeen FC and was a member of the 50 Club for over 20 years and would follow Aberdeen all over Europe including Gothenburgh. In 1963 Rae began playing golf when his brother Derek took him one day to Kintore golf club, he became a member at Kintore and later joined Northern, Newmachar and Murcar Golf Club for many years and achieved a handicap of 3. Rae loved going on cruises and enjoyed many a family holiday to Florida along with golfing holidays with his wife Winnie. Rae fulfilled a lifelong ambition when he attended the Masters in 2004. Rae and Winnie also travelled to many far away destinations including India, China and Australia. Rae was a loving husband, father and grandfather who could not do enough for his family. Rae is survived by his wife Winnie of 57 years, daughters Arlene and Genevieve and grandson Rhyan.
