So long old friend

I knew Bruce as a Teacher, a mentor and friend. I first met Bruce as an Art Teacher in Mintlaw Primary, being interested in cars his Nissan sportscar was very notable. He had a lovely, gentle presence teaching us young pre-teens art. I recall a few trips to Aden in those young years drawing and scratching our "best" recreation of the Flaura and fauna. However, as I progressed from Primary to Secondary school, I approached Mr. Rankin to give me drum lessons. I was about 14 at the time, and he gave up his personal time in lunch breaks to teach me various rudiments. That led to a side gig assisting him in one of the school productions of our winter play sharing drum and permissions duties. He also sourced my very drum kit and constructed it in our spare room. We have home video of Bruce talking me through the various "nuts and bolts". I now live in Texas, my sister sent me the new today of Bruce's passing. I know he would be very proud to know that 30 years later I am still drumming regular, happily married with two children. Throughout the years, my Mum still living in Mintlaw would mention to me that she had seen Bruce down at the square or heard of him playing with the Big Band somewhere. He made a lasting impression on me and will never be forgotten. I am sending my love to the family. Matthew
