WHYTE (Golspie, Dunfermline) Peacefully, after a short illness in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, David James Whyte, aged 81, on November 25, 2021. Rector of Golspie High School 1983-2002, Scottish Rugby Internationalist 1965-67. Dearly beloved husband of Judith, proud father to Stephen, Geoffrey, Barnaby and Sebastian and loving grandfather to all their children. Funeral Service on Friday, December 10, at 11.30am, in Dunfermline Crematorium. All friends welcome. Family flowers only, but donations, if desired, may be given at the door towards charities dear to David's heart.

Sad to read of David's passing. I used to enjoy our wee chats, as he did his 'constitutional' up the Glen Road past our cottage. Thinking of you, Judith at this difficult time.

David was my "Senior Man" in my first year at St Andrews University and we were both in the Scottish athletics team. He was a brilliant all-rounder - not only the British (AAA) Long Jump champion but also a superb sprinter and on one occasion when we needed points from the high jump to win a key meeting he sailed over 6 feet!! Though his obituary doesn't mention it I'm pretty sure he played for the Lions as well as Scotland. He was a delight to know: self-effacing and endlessly encouraging. I cannot imagine a better headmaster - Golspie was very fortunate to have him for almost two decades.
