HENRY MICHAEL GUNNING 6/9/1949 - 26/12/2020 It is with a great sense of loss that we announce the death of Henry Gunning, at the age of 71, on December 26, 2020, following injuries sustained during a gas well blowout in Ngadiaga, Senegal on December 19, 2020. Henry was born in Peace River, Canada, on September 6, 1949, to Sir Robert Gunning, 8th Baronet and Ann, Lady Gunning, who emigrated to Canada from England. He began his 50+ year career in the oil and gas industry in Alberta and then, via North Africa, was based for many years in Aberdeen mainly with KCA drilling. He lived life fully going on to manage countless drilling operations and exploration projects and to make lasting friendships across the globe. He lovingly raised his families: Holly (Peter) and Melanie (Nick) from his marriage to Rita, and Charleen, Jack and Robin from his marriage to Kathy, locally in Stonehaven and Cammachmore and then Alton, England before spending his later years in Thies, Senegal where he married Rokhaya. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, James (Sarina) and Hannah Uri, and Ruby, Jeannie and Mae Mardon; his sister Sautie and six brothers John, Joseph, David (Claudette), Bernard (Libby), Peter (Pauline) and Simon, many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, as well as his many friends and colleagues. Please see the Edmonton Journal for a full obituary. The funeral service will be held at 1300 GMT, Monday, February 15, at West Herts Crematorium, England. A livestream will be available. A celebration of Henry's life will be held at a later date at St Mary Magdalene Church, Horton, England. Please contact henry.gunning.family.friends@gmail.com for details of either event.
