DUNCAN After an active life lived to the full, William (Bill) died on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Dearly loved husband of Alison for 33 years. Much loved dad of Katherine and Ruth, father-in-law of Stewart and Alastair. Big brother of Alan and brother-in-law to Trish and Janice. Funeral private. Lots of things will be left unfixed now.

Someone reached out to me asking if this was “Willem” as that was how he was known as a frequent visitor to the Black Isle in the 1970s, and I fear it is. It’s a measure of the man that he should be remembered from such distance for so long. The word “Gentleman” is over-used these days, but not in his case. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone, or get angry and only once get agitated when he had a small accident while driving my van and was a lot more worried about it than me. I well remember the time he spent dissecting some mechanical or electrical lost cause in order to (usually) resurrect it. You could see it coming as he did that weird nose twitch thing which was the signal that battle was about to commence…. And nobody took longer to meticulously unwrap a present. He’ll be missed by many, many folk.
