I was saddened to hear of the death of the man, who made me want to study at Liverpool University. From the first time I met him I was impressed by how kind and pleasant he was and how effortlessly he was able to establish a rapport.
His cheerful manner and his enthusiasm as a lecturer are accurately encapsulated within his appearance in the Classics At Liverpool video on YouTube.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to read that Jonathan has died. I had known him in our youth and our families were known to each other for many years. I was at University in Aberdeen at the same time as Jonathan and can remember many happy hours of discussion in the Refectory at Kings. We shared some classes, which added to the discussions and friendship. He will always have a place in my heart, not least for conversations about Hadyn.
Please accept my sincere condolences - he will always be there for you - part of him cannot leave you.
In sympathy
