Our Dad

To an amazing dad. Each of us having cherished memories from childhood days through our adult life. Lovingly we are sharing these with the family to get us through this sad time. You were famed for your DIY skills (destroy it yourself), no mates rates or freebies not you it would cost a fortune for your services. A small job you did for me ended up needing a plasterer, painter n’ decorator and an electrician. Oh me! You were more suited to destruction than construction, you were in your element when Kenny asked you to help him break down walls, ripping out kitchens, ripping down plasterboard and felling trees at Maryculter. You got stuck in and there was no stopping you, you did a grand job. Your grandchildren and great grandchildren loved how you would take a tune and add your own lyrics, we’d sit there and wonder what on earth is this he’s teaching them. You had them in the palm of your hand. Dad, you will be forever in our hearts and minds. You will be with us every day, we have mellowed, your grand daughters have your “Tell it like it is” attitude and your grandsons have your “humour, wit and one liners” to a T. The great grandchildren absolutely adore you. Mum quite simply, will miss you. Love always Dad. James, Heather, Maureen and Kenny.

How do we start to say how much we will miss you. Your cheery sense of humour, your endless Doric sayings and comments will stay with us for the rest of our lives. We are lucky cos we have so many happy memories of picnics with the kids when they were young, runs out in the car, wee trips away in the bus or latterly just days at home sitting chatting. One memory that stays with me is on one of our visits to Majorca to celebrate New Year. After an enjoyable week, we were scheduled for an early departure the following morning. All packed up we were ready for the off. We had set the alarm to make sure we were up and ready for our pick up. Next thing we knew was a knock on the bedroom door and Jim shouting "are you up". Bloody hell I thought we have slept in. Checking the time, I said to Bill "the clock has stopped". Panic....into the bathroom, clothes on, running about like headless chickens!!! Then Jim knocked again....."go back to bed he says....I got the time wrong". He had realised when he took the lift down to Reception, complete with cases, jackets et all...to be met en route by the Night Porter who stared at him with a puzzled expression.. "you're a bit early aren't you"? to which Jim answered, "No" it's 10 minutes past 6". "I don't think so said the Night Porter, it's only half past two!!! Needless to say we didn't get back to sleep and we arrived home shattered!!!! Jim, we will love and miss you forever. Sleep in peace. Margaret, Bill and Gary xxl

Granda Jim - Our Hero ??

Everyone says their granda was the best, but that can’t be true because they never had you?! As far back as I can remember, you were always such fun, a sense of humour and personality that was second to none. You worked hard for your family, until you could work no more, you were 75 when you finally wore. You drove grandma crazy with your moans and your gripes but you couldn’t have been that bad, your marriage lasted more than 23,741 nights! A husband, a father, a granda and more, you always brought laughter when you walked through the door. No one can compare to the man that we knew, right up to the very end you brought banter with you. We’re so sad that you had to leave us, especially today... we can’t grieve together or comfort each other in any way. I know that you’ll watch over us, til we meet again someday, I hope that you’ll be super proud and love us still the same. Forever in our hearts, forever in our memories. We will always love you ????
