My cousin Steve saw no value in things that were easy - once doe, they could be done faster, or differently...or just again for fun. His Mum lent my Mum her pram for Me... but Steve made his appearance and I believe the pram was shipped back to 'Loanies' to receive him. And so it continued... Never a dull moment when Steve was near. There were ups and downs, but the memories are all 'up'. There was a 50cc bike to get free and on the road... But the licence was denied by a change in the law on 31st Dec which excluded the January-boy for a year. Be it Bob-a-job for the scouts, airgun targets or 12-bore on clays, taking a TR6 up a muddy hill, new levels were set and achieved in new times. As I heard Val say later "I thought I was accident-prone until I met Steve'. Peebles Hydro and the Merchant Navy, then BP Drilling got the benefit of Steve Morrison with irrepressible humour and a deep infectious laugh. There was life at Pettymuick, and the partnership with kindred spirit Val. The cruel MS diagnosis was met by a dismissive "You'll have to think of a better excuse than that to divorce Me" from the similarly irrepressible Val, and new challenges were met. A cottar house at Nether Kirkton, the old homestead at Loanies, a beautiful hoose at Newbiggin' were dominated and a menagerie of children and animals grew up. 12 y on, I asked "are you unlucky?" and got the response "I've just been to a funeral... colleague of 40...ife, kids, mortgage... Dead. Who's lucky or unlucky?" A visit in the snow was greeted with "the new coffee-maker's nae guid, we'll tak it bak.... the electric wheelchair was out in the snow to get said coffeemaker to Inverurie. Naeb'dy rips off Steve Morrison without hearing about it.
